Daniel R. Sokol is recognized among Missouri’s foremost attorneys in resolving complex family law disputes. A founding shareholder of Capes, Sokol, Goodman & Sarachan, P.C., he concentrates his practice in the firm’s Family Law practice group which he chairs.

A skilled litigator and trained mediator, Mr. Sokol represents individuals and families in complex, high-stakes and often high-profile family law proceedings, including:

Mr. Sokol regularly lectures on family law and related topics for bar associations and universities throughout Missouri. He has been interviewed by television and radio media as an authority on family law issues and has been cited in publications, including Missouri Lawyers Weekly, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Review and the St. Louis Business Journal. He was appointed by the Administrative Judge of the Family Court of St. Louis County to serve on several of its standing and special committees.

Mr. Sokol’s leadership skills have been recognized on numerous occasions by his peers. He was elected to three terms on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Bar and has served on many of its special and regular committees and task forces. He is past president of the Missouri Chapter, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has chaired the Family Law Committee of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) and served as vice-chair of the Missouri Bar’s Family Law Section. Mr. Sokol also serves as a volunteer facilitator for the Missouri (lawyer disciplinary) Complaint Resolution Program.

Following law school, Mr. Sokol served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis County from 1974 to 1975 and then entered the private practice of law. He served as a Municipal Judge for the City of St. Louis from 1977 to 1980 and as an alternate Judge for the City of Clayton, Missouri. At Saint Louis University School of Law, he served as an associate editor of the Law Journal and was inducted into the school’s National Honor Society chapter in recognition of high scholastic achievement.

Mr. Sokol is active in numerous professional organizations, including the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) (and its Family Law Committee), the St. Louis County Bar Association, the Missouri Bar (and its Family Law Section) and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. From 1996 to 2003, Mr. Sokol served as an appointed member of the St. Louis County Domestic and Family Violence Council, including service on its Executive Committee. In addition, he has served as a board member for several community and civic nonprofit organizations.
